  1. In reality, this does not apply just to postmodern students. I learned after I had kids of my own that the standard model for teaching when I was growing up was not the optimal learning process for myself. This would explain why I could not grasp Algebra in high school when the instructor stood in the way of what he was doing on the chalkboard (yes, I’m that old). When my kids asked me to help them with a problem, usually something they needed to assemble or disassemble, I would show them then put it back in the original state and then coach them through the process. I still teach my adult daughter how to work on her car this same way today.
